Don't discharge sump pumps into sewer system

The city of Kalispell reminds residents not to discharge ground water from sump pumps into the city’s sanitary sewer system.

It is against city regulations to pump ground water into the city’s sewer system.

Sump pumps are a major burden to the city’s wastewater treatment facility. When sump pumps are connected to the city’s sanitary sewer system, their flow takes up space needed to carry sewage to the treatment plant.

The flow from your sump pump should flow onto your property and percolate into the ground or it can be discharged into the storm system via the street. Never direct the water onto a neighbor’s property.
