Apply this spring for summer guitar workshops scholarships

The Crown of the Continent Guitar Foundation is accepting scholarship applications from students, teachers and performers who reside throughout the greater Flathead Valley to attend the fifth annual Crown Guitar Workshop. The event will be held at Flathead Lake Lodge in Bigfork, Aug. 24-31.

The Artists in Residence scheduled to appear at the workshop to teach and perform include classical master David Leisner, country songwriter Shelby Lynne, John Oates (of Hall and Oates fame), blues master Ana Popovic, jazz /fusion’s Lee Ritenour, and jazz and rock veteran Mike Stern.

Joining these master musicians will be a world-class faculty of professional guitarists for six days of intimate workshops, master classes and jam sessions in a variety of guitar genre that includes rock and rock fusion, jazz and jazz fusion, blues, classical, acoustic, songwriting, jamming and beginner sessions.

Ten scholarships of up to $3,000 will be awarded providing the recipients with tuition and meals. They are available to guitar students, teachers and performers who reside in the greater Flathead Valley area. They must be submitted by May 8, with winners announced by June 1. Student applicants must have studied guitar for at least two years and have been a resident of the greater Flathead Valley for at least one year. Applicants must complete an essay about the role of guitar in their life and submit a recording. Financial need will be taken into consideration. 

The teacher and performer applicants need to have taught guitar or been performing for at least two years and have been a resident of the greater Flathead Valley for at least one year. Guitar teachers can be either teaching privately or in a school setting. They must complete an application and write an essay about the role of guitar in their life, and submit a recording.
