BOZEMAN — An investigation into reports that a Bozeman man had drilled holes in the attic to observe and record two women in the apartment next to his led to the discovery that he had hundreds of images of child pornography.

The U.S. attorney’s office says 41-year-old Kevin Scott Nessland was sentenced to seven years in prison during a March 6 hearing before U.S. District Judge Dana Christensen in Missoula.

Court records say Nessland left Bozeman after the state investigation into the recording case began, but before his residence had been searched. Nessland took some of his computer and equipment with him.

Nessland was arrested in Idaho and returned to Montana. Electronic items in his vehicle were seized. Investigators eventually found more than 1,700 files which depicted child pornography.
