Two turn lanes to return to West Reserve

The intersection of U.S. 93 and West Reserve Drive — one of the busiest junctions in Kalispell — soon will have two left-hand turn lanes once again for motorists turning south on U.S. 93 from West Reserve.

When the intersection was rebuilt last year to accommodate the newest section of the U.S. 93 bypass, signals were installed for two westbound through lanes on West Reserve.

That was based on anticipated higher traffic volume on the bypass, according to Bob Vosen, district construction engineer for the Montana Department of Transportation.

However, since the bypass isn’t finished yet and more retail development has been added such as Cabela’s, the biggest need is for two left-turn lanes onto U.S. 93, he said.

Parts have been ordered to alter the traffic lights, Vosen said.

The change should be made next week and traffic will be interrupted somewhat while the work is done. New signs to direct motorists will be erected at the intersection.

Once the weather is warmer, the intersection surface will be striped to further direct motorists.
