Local author, illustrator team up for children's book
Bigfork author James Sticka has released the children’s book, “Jacob and the Giant,” with illustrations by Kalispell’s Shane Morgan.
The book tells the story of a little boy named Jacob, who took his father's team of horses and wagon into the Dark Forest to gather firewood. Suddenly, a big, scary giant stepped out from behind the trees where he'd been watching. He kidnapped the boy and forced him to spend the night alone in a small cave. Jacob had to think of a way to outsmart the giant, so he could escape and get back home.
Sticka, a retired cabinetmaker from Bigfork, writes “This story, with 18 beautifully detailed illustrations, is fashioned in the style of tales told long ago like the ones my Grampa Jacob related to our family back in the 1960s.
“I shared it many, many times with my four sons as they grew up in eastern Montana. And now, I have grandchildren. I wanted them to have this tale in a book lest it be forgotten.”
“Jacob and the Giant” was published by Wordcrafters Guild Press in Bigfork. Cost is $19.95 for hardcover and $14.95 for softcover.
