Bravettes drop pair on diamond

It was a long afternoon for Flathead at the Conrad Complex on Saturday.

The Bravettes lost to Helena Capital 16-3 and Helena High 18-7 in Western AA softball action.

Flathead (4-8 overall, 2-6 league) fell behind Capital 7-0 after three innings and did not score until the fifth and sixth innings.

It was a different story with Helena High, however,

Flathead jumped out to a 6-1 lead, before Helena roared back. The Bengals scored twice in the third, had back-to-back four-run innings in the fourth and fifth and closed with a seven-run sixth inning.

“They got a couple of hits in the gapper, we got behind and it got away from us,” Flathead coach Ashley Fusaro said.

Helena had 18 hits to 12 for Flathead.

“They hit the ball well,” Fusaro said of her team.

“We were happy with that.”

Kaitlin Torgerson homered to left center with two runners on in the second inning of the finale to put the Bravettes up 6-1.

Kylee Meredith led the Bravette hit parade, going 3 for 3. Torgerson and Iris Matulevich were both 2 for 4.

In the opener, it was all Capital.

The Bruins outhit Flathead 15-6 and took advantage of seven Flathead errors.

Flathead had five errors against Helena.

Kaylee Henderson homered in the sixth inning versus Capital, a solo shot to left-center field. It was her third of season.

Kylee Beccari singled in two Flathead runners in the fifth inning.

“You can’t win when you don’t hit,” Fusaro said of the Capital contest.

“Errors killed us.”

Flathead is back in action Tuesday hosting Libby at the Conrad Complex. Varsity action begins at 6 p.m.
