Eureka hammers Drummond in sweep

EUREKA — Eureka scored big against Drummond on Friday, sweeping a doubleheader in a nonconference softball set by finishing both games early.

The Lions started quickly scoring three runs in each the first and second innings in the opener to take a 6-1 lead. It was a seven-run fifth inning that brought the game to a close with a 13-2 victory.

Laura Williams was 2-for-3 from the plate with a pair of RBIs. She also dealt a gem from the circle, allowing five hits in the win.

Eureka was even more successful in the back end of the doubleheader, using another strong start to earn the sweep.

After a pair of runs in the first inning, the Lions batted around in the second, scoring 14 runs to take a commanding lead. They would score 10 more runs over the next three innings to close out a busy week with a 26-6 victory.

Jaimie Soderling was 2-for-5 from the plate with three RBIs and Evynn Anderson also hit in three runs. Anderson picked up the win in the circle, pitching the first three innings of the blowout.
