Legion baseball: Lakers split doubleheader with Belgrade
The Kalispell Lakers AA salvaged an American Legion baseball doubleheader split with the Belgrade Bandits on Sunday afternoon at Griffin Field.
Kalispell (4-4 overall) put on an offensive show in Game 2, banging out 13 hits en route to a 6-4 victory.
Belgrade won the opener 5-1.
Eight Lakers had hits in the finale, led by Tiler Whiteaker, 3 for 3, Walker Malmin, 2 for 4, and Adam Frandsen, 2 for 4.
Malmin and Frandsen had two RBIs each.
Frandsen, Justin Rich and Andy Bemis doubled for the Lakers.
In the opener, Kalispell could muster just three hits against Belgrade pitcher Kooby Ruff. He had four strikeouts and walked one batter.
Brandon Maaseen and Malmin combined on a 5-hitter. Maassen walked seven, but fanned seven batters in five innings.
Frandsen doubled and drove in the Lakers lone run in that outing.
After eight games, opponents are hitting just .198 against the Lakers. Kalispell’s team ERA is 1.75.
Kalispell is allowing just two runs per game on average.
The Lakers are back in action Saturday, 3 p.m., hosting the Mission Valley Mariners A. On Sunday, it’s another home outing with the Bitterrroot Red Sox A. Both games are doubleheaders.

EUREKA — Zeke Webster-Yaqui tripled and drove in three runs while TJ Olson and Bransen Krebs both doubled once to push Mission Valley Mariners A past the Glacier Twins B on the final day of the Earl Russell Tournament.
Mission Valley finished the game with 16 hits. Cole Snyder went 3 for 3 while Brennen Andrews, Alex Killian, Olson, Trevor Paro and Jacob Harrod had two hits each.
The Mariners did all of their scoring in the first four inning. They tallied nine runs in the third.
Chris Park and Sean Hoerner had doubles for Glacier. They also had two hits each.
