EUREKA — The Eureka girls and Troy boys narrowly won team titles in a close day of competition at the Lincoln County track meet Tuesday.

Eureka thrower Emily Billow shattered her school record in the shot put on the way to winning the event. Her toss of 40 feet, 8 1/2 inches beat her previous record by more than a foot and is the longest throw in the state this season. Billow also won the discus, one of three Lions to win multiple individual events.

Alex Bartmess won each of the distance races with ease, beating the field by nearly a minute in the 1,600 and by 1:28 in the 3,200. Lexi Pluid won each of the hurdles races and led off Eureka’s winning 400 and 1,600 relay teams. The Lions won the meet, edging Libby by a score of 88-78.

Libby had some star athletes of its own, Shyla Stevenson edging Eureka’s Ida Skjevold in each the 100 and 200 by a combined 0.4 seconds. Stevenson also won the 400. Asia Jones won both the javelin and the pole vault for the Loggers and Marlena Urvater won the long and triple jumps.

Troy sophomore Sean Opland led the Trojans to a 79-74 team victory over Eureka with three individual event wins.

Opland edged the Lions’ Christian Langston in the 100 by .1 seconds finishing in 11 seconds flat. He also won the 200 and the high jump.

Trinity Rice won both the 800 and 1,600 for Troy, the Trojans also easily leading both relays.

Eureka’s Khaz Yanick leapt 43-1 3/4 in the triple jump to narrowly miss setting a school record, but increased his class-best mark by more than a foot with the third-best jump in the state this season.
