Bulldogs sweep Libby, Bigfork

WHITEFISH — Whitefish’s Holden Roberts won twice at No. 1 singles while Tommy Murphy and Bailey Jack both won singles and doubles matches in tennis dual victories over Libby, 6-1, and Bigfork, 7-0, on Thursday afternoon.

Murphy and Jack won at Nos. 2-3 singles versus Libby and teamed up at No. 2 doubles for a win against Bigfork.

Ryan Brown and Ethan Potthoff also went 2-0 for Whitefish at Nos. 2-3 doubles.

In the matchup with Northwestern A foe Libby, Jason Schnackenberg and Cody Wood of Libby prevented a Whitefish sweep with a thrilling win at No. 1 doubles over Logan Blades and Nathan Fauth, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.

COLUMBIA FALLS — Libby held a slight edge on Columbia Falls in a Northwestern A dual that was eventually halted because of darkness.

The No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles matches were not completed.

Cooper Wendt of Columbia Falls hung tough in downing Adam Kirschenmann 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (9-7) at No. 3 singles.

“A good win for Cooper,” Columbia Falls coach Gary Yee said.

“He had to stay tough in the second set. I’m glad he hung with it.”

This was the regular-season finale for Columbia Falls.

Northwestern A divisional action starts Thursday at Flathead Valley Community College.

Singles — Gavin Thelen, CF, def. Jason Brandt, 6-2, 6-4; Colin Maloney, L, def. Grant Wallace, 6-4, 6-4; Cooper Wendt, CF, def. Adam Kirschenmann, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (9-7); Brock Denny, CF, vs. Kody Bailey, L, did not finish.

COLUMBIA FALLS — Columbia Falls won three of four singles matches and took care of business at No. 1 doubles with Elizabeth Jackson and Baylee Brinton dominating to slip by Libby in a Northwetern A dual.

Emily Getts rolled 6-0, 6-0 for Columbia Falls at No. 1 singles. She finished conference play this spring unbeaten.

Jackson and Brinton cruised 6-2, 6-1.

“Even though we lost both, our No. 2 doubles (Samantha Gilk and Shelby Anderson) and No. 3 doubles (Tarah Hoyt and Natalie Ward) played their best matches of the year,” Columbia Falls coach Jerry Smalley said.

“We’re happy to have completed our conference scheduled without makeups. We are looking forward to divisionals.”

Northwestern A divisional action starts Thursday at Flathead Valley Community College.
