A proposed guest cabin development near West Glacier tops a heavy agenda for the Flathead County Planning Board when it meets May 14.

Lindsey Bengtson of West Glacier is asking for a major land-use review to construct five rental cabins on a 10-acre tract about 1.5 miles southwest of West Glacier off Old Highway 2 East. The property falls within the Middle Canyon region of the Canyon Area Land Use Regulatory System.

The Middle Canyon Land Use Advisory Committee was notified of the proposal but could not hold a public meeting because it didn’t have a quorum, so the proposal was forwarded to the county Planning Board without a recommendation.

The Planning Office has developed 13 conditions for the board to consider, should it approve the review. Those conditions deal with review of proposed water, sewage and storm-drainage systems, signs, electrical and telephone utilities, landscaping and parking.

A public hearing on Bengtson’s request begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, in the second-floor conference room of the Earl Bennett Building, 1035 First Ave. W. in Kalispell.

Three other public hearings deal with zone change requests.

Ruth Horn is asking to change the zoning on 37.5 acres off Spring Prairie Road in the U.S. 93 North Zoning District from agricultural-40 to suburban agricultural-10. If approved, the minimum lot size would be decreased from 40 to 10 acres.

Mark Owens has asked for a zone change from agricultural-20 to suburban agricultural-5 on 19.3 acres at 715 Birch Grove Road. The change would decrease the minimum lot size from 20 to 5 acres.

Haskill Creek Holdings has asked for a zone change on 39.6 acres at 1700 East Edgewood Drive in Whitefish from agricultural-20 to suburban agricultural-10. The property is located in the Haskill Basin Estates District; the zone change would decrease the minimum lot size from 20 to 10 acres.

Following the hearings, the board will hold a follow-up discussion with the city of Kalispell’s planning staff regarding an update of the Kalispell growth policy. An initial discussion was held in April 2012.
