Claims about Fisher inflated?

I am writing this in response to Kelly Gallipeau’s letter, “Vote for Fisher in SD4.” The accomplishments ascribed to Tammi Fisher by Ms. Gallipeau should more properly be accredited to Jane Howington, the former city manager.

Howington’s accomplishments of building the reserves from $250,000 in 2009 to more than $1 million in July 2011 and negotiating the union contracts for the city employees which helped the city to be a sustainable operation was acknowledged by Fisher on November 11, 2011, in the Daily Inter Lake. Additionally, legal liabilities are handled by the city attorney, not the mayor.

The duties of the mayor are as follows: 1) Preside at all City Council meetings. 2) Appoint, with the consent of the City Council, all members of advisory boards and commissions. 3) Execute all ordinances and resolutions on behalf of the city after council approval. 4) Perform ceremonial functions as mayor of the city of Kalispell. 5) Perform any other duties specifically designated by ordinance or resolution.

Gallipeau’s claims for Fisher are rendered moot when one actually reads the duties of the office of mayor. Nowhere does it state that her responsibilities were as represented in the piece. Jane Howington had the foresight to help the city of Kalispell to have a plan for long-term stability for the taxpayers. I find the article disingenuous to say the least.

Be informed voters, search out the truth and find out about the issues that Senate District 4 candidates stand for in this race. Join me in supporting Mark Blasdel on June 3. Mark’s proven record as speaker of the House, the 100 percent vote of both Democrats and Republicans on House Bill 2 (budget) and eight years of serving over 40 percent of the voters in Senate District 4 (covered by his old House district) can be verified.
