Embezzler sentenced

A Whitefish woman has been given a deferred sentence after embezzling more than $2,500 from Safeway.

Amelia Lathum was given the three-year sentence April 24 in Flathead District Court.

District Judge Robert Allison also ordered Lathum to pay $2,873 in restitution to the business.

She took cash from tills randomly between November 2012 and June 2013.

She was also ordered to pay a $500 fine and a $250 public defender fee.
