Vote Horning for Lake County commissioner
A county commissioner’s seat is one of the most important positions of local government and should be representative of county residents on everything from fair taxation; open, responsive, and responsible government; to working effectively with federal, city, state, and tribal governments.
The county commissioners also affect planning and zoning decisions, such as the density regulations, that impact the region’s economy and your personal property rights. If you want an experienced, honest, and capable individual as a Lake County commissioner, then now is your chance to vote for Rory Horning.
These days, it is too easy to “go along to get along,” with public officials seldom taking any position that clearly supports private property, citizens’ rights, or the U.S. and Montana Constitutions, even if taking no position means violating their oath of office. Political favors, favoritism, and fear are too often the motivators for what should be genuine interest in serving the public.
I have experienced the current county commissioners, including Mr. Horning’s opponent, fail me as a voting citizen in many ways. On some issues, like the water compact, commissioners claim they have “no authority or jurisdiction to act,” and do nothing, but then turn around and take an action to support the compact behind closed doors and without proper public notice. Another egregious act, irrigators who wanted action taken on illegal taxes levied by their irrigation districts were told to “move on and forget it.” I guess it was easier than taking a stand and correcting local government errors.
If Mr. Horning had been commissioner in each of these issues, there could have been different outcomes that respected the citizens of Lake County.
Because of Rory’s long-time residency in this area, his considerable experience as a county government official in other states, and his close familiarity with all of the issues that can make or break Lake County, I am urging citizens to stand up and vote for Rory Horning.
You can make a real difference in how your county works for you by electing Rory Horning for Lake County commissioner.
