Shoot! It was just a misunderstanding

A Flathead County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to an Eid Lane property after a man was reported shooting a high-powered rifle into the window of a basement and then a woman and two young children came outside. It turned out that the man was firing a .22-caliber rifle into the backstop of a shooting range on his own property.

A Whalebone Drive man complained that his neighbor’s real estate agent had placed a ‘for sale’ sign on a portion of his property, and that when he told the neighbor to move it, the neighbor sent him a letter “that basically said to get over it and get a life.” The man felt the letter constituted harassment.

A Lupfer Road resident was warned about being cited if there were any more issues after the resident’s dog got loose, went onto a neighbor’s property and killed chickens.

A Lore Lake Drive man reported a dog killed some of his sheep and wanted to know what the laws were on him getting rid of the dog “using any means necessary.”

A U.S. 93 South man who had an altercation with another person the prior night found a bunch of nails spread in front of his vehicle the following morning.

A Bierney Creek resident in Lakeside called with “what if” questions about having a guard dog and about the vicious dog ordinance.

A man reported his girlfriend popped all his tires with a pair of scissors, but declined to request charges against the woman.

A man was reported smoking in his room at an East Oregon Street assisted living facility.

A tiller was stolen from an open garage on Hoffman Draw in Kila.

A tool box and tools were stolen from a Conrad Drive shed.


A report of a reckless driver swerving all over the road on West Center Street led to her being stopped by a Kalispell Police Department officer. The woman was found not to be intoxicated, just having a bad morning and not paying attention. She was home by the time she was stopped and agreed to stay there the rest of the day.

A man wearing a dress and a pink wig was reported walking down Seventh Avenue West carrying a broken piece of mirror and talking to himself. It was later determined he liked looking at his reflection, and had gone home.

A Rosewood Drive woman complained that an old boat was parked in front of her apartment complex for a week and was blocking the trash cans, so her trash wasn’t being picked up.

A 2-year-old boy stuck his finger through a neighbor’s fence on Sixth Avenue West and was bitten by a German Shepherd. The bite did not break the skin.

A youth was caught on the roof of a covered eating area in a park. The youth’s mother showed up while the youth was being counseled by an officer.

Several youths were reported trying to break into a trailer on College Avenue.

Someone slashed the tires of a vehicle on U.S. 93 South.

A Whitefish Police Department officer counseled a man after a woman reported he had been bugging her at work and via text messaging for about a month, even after she told him to stop. He agreed to stop all contact and to stop going to her work.

A man was arrested for drunk driving after backing into a vehicle on West Second Street, then fleeing, before eventually returning to the scene.

A disgruntled person reported a park worker almost ran the person over with a lawnmower, which was later determined to be false.

The owner of a Baker Avenue pharmacy reported a pair of customers who come in regularly and buy a lot of Sudafed, an ingredient in illegal drug manufacturing.

The lifeguard tower at City Beach was reported to be in the water, too far out to be reached.


A man was cited by a Columbia Falls Police Department officer for careless driving after he was reported driving his car, with three other passengers, between 60 and 70 miles per hour down Sixth Avenue West, nearly running over a dog.

A man was arrested during a traffic stop on Railroad Street.
