All too often we remain silent during primary season. We stand back letting the political process run its course. Fear always seems to be the motivator as we do not want to anger a person or party. After all, why stick your neck out just to have it cut off by the very people you believe share your political values?

Our goal in the primary is to pick the best of the best to represent our district in the general election. The race in Senate District 4 is a very important one. Senate District 4 encompasses the majority of the Kalispell city limits. Knowing both of the Republicans running for this district, I found myself running for a wall to hide behind until the election was over.

It wasn’t until I had a discussion with one of the thousands of residents I represent in South Kalispell that I realized I was guilty of “primary silence”! It is for that very reason that I write to all of you today and let you know that I support Tammi Fisher for Senate District 4.

Tammi understands the needs of Kalispell as she lives with us and has spent the last four years representing us as mayor. Her opponent in this race lives in Somers and should be running for Senate District 6. It is an absolute shame that her opponent made this decision because in doing so he has hurt the very citizens he would have done a fine job representing in his home town of Somers. He has also put the citizens of Kalispell in jeopardy by creating a possibility of not having the most qualified candidate represent Kalispell.

The person I want representing me will work tirelessly to ensure the place I call home is represented in Helena. I want their hands to be sore, not from the hands they shake but rather the bills they write to better our lives here in Kalispell. This is Kalispell’s Senate district. We cannot allow out-of-town representation to make decisions that have a direct impact on our lives. Please join me in casting a vote for Kalispell. Vote for Tammi Fisher on June 3.
