The Kalispell Lakers AA finished up Sunday action on a high note by defeating the Sherwood Park Dukes 14-3 in an afternoon Canadian Days Tournament contest at Griffin Field.

The two American Legion baseball teams met earlier in the day in tournament play, with Sherwood Park winning that contest 14-5.

Sam Crompton, 3 for 3, drove in one run and scored twice while Brandon Maassen, 2 for 3, drove in two runs and scored once for the Lakers in the loss. Crompton and Maassen doubled and Maassen also tripled.

Justin Wallace, 1 for 2, drove in four runs for the Lakers later in the victory over Sherwood Park and scored three times. He had the game’s lone extra-base hit — a triple.

Brett Thomas, 2 for 4 had three RBIs and Walker Malmin, 1 for 3, two RBIs.

Kalispell scored five times in the opening inning and led 8-3 after three.

The Lakers pushed six runs across the plate in the fourth inning.

“Our plate approach, our at-bats were better (in this game) than they were the last couple days,” Lakers coach Ryan Malmin said of the finale.

“We struggled this weekend at the dish, but that will get better.”

Coach Malmin said pitching was a high point earlier in the tournament with Wallace and Maassen both throwing extremely well in two heartbreaking losses.
