AA softball: Bravettes lose twice to Missoula Big Sky

MISSOULA — Flathead’s bid for a trip to the upcoming State Class AA Softball tournament fell short Thursday afternoon as the Bravettes dropped a doubleheader to Missoula Big Sky.

Big Sky took the first state play-in game 8-0 and followed with a 12-6 victory in the second.

Big Sky was the third seed while Flathead was seeded sixth.

The state tournament is May 29-31 in Great Falls.

Macey Newbary tossed a one-hitter in the opener for Big Sky. She fanned 13 Flathead batters.

Kaycee Smith had the lone hit for Flathead.

The Bravettes struggled in the field with seven errors.

Flathead scored first in the second game, but it was all Big Sky after that.

Big Sky banged out 16 hits to six for Flathead.
