Bigfork girls tied for 5th in B-C state tennis

MISSOULA — The Bigfork girls are tied for fifth place after first-day action at the Class B-C State Tennis Tournament.

The Valkyries and Fairfield both have eight points.

Townsend is off to a fast start with 17 points. Chinook, 12, is second. Baker and Cut Bank, nine each, are tied for third.

Bigfork’s Lana Berg won her opening match in singles play, but lost in the second round.

Bigfork’s Alanis Stallknecht and Brooke Bonner had a first-round bye in doubles and followed that with a victory in the second round.

Teammates Kayla Casalegno and Alauna Weilacher won their first-round doubles match, but lost in the second round.

In boys action, Bigfork is seventh with five points. Adam Jordt and Isaac Martel posted a win in their lone outing of the day in the first round.

Tournament action continues today.
