Flathead wins opening speech tournament
Flathead topped Class AA schools and Hamilton won sweepstakes honors for A-B-C schools Saturday at the Kalispell Kickoff Classic Speech and Debate Tournament.
Twelve varsity teams as well as eight junior varsity squads competed in the meet. Speech events were held at Flathead High School and debate events were at Glacier High School.
Flathead scored 220 points and Hamilton 65.
Glacier was second in Class AA with 175.5 points; Columbia Falls was second in A-B-C competition with 55 points.
Flathead students won individual championships in six events to pace the team victory.
The next major speech competition is this weekend at the Hawker Invitational in Bozeman.
