Class B volleyball: Florence, Loyola in semifinals; Eureka goes 1-1, Bigfork 0-1

RONAN — It will be an all-District 6B semifinal at the Western B Divisional volleyball tournament tonight at 6.

Those two teams rolled by 7B foes on Thursday during the opening session.

Florence downed Eureka and Bigfork 3-0 while Loyola bested Thompson Falls 3-1 and Plains 3-0.

The top two teams advance to state.

Florence 3, Eureka 0

Florence dominated net play with 38 kills to 12 for Eureka.

Aces were also a big edge for Florence 10-1.

Elliott Peterson had five kills and four blocks to lead Eureka.

Eureka rallied to win sets four and five to pull out the first-round victory.

The scores: 25-12, 26-28, 25-15, 25-10, 16-14.

Amanda Peterson had 17 kills and two blocks.

Eureka had 117 digs with Evynn Anderson leading the way with 38.

Trinity Lewandowski had five of Eureka’s 12 aces.

Florence def. Bigfork 3-0

An early start, didn’t slow down Florence as the Falcons dropped Bigfork 25-10, 25-22, 25-23 in the first match of the day at 10 a.m.

Bigfork had balance with its attack with Marissa Hiza getting six kills and Abbie Fraley and Miranda Campbell both had five.

Hiza also shared the lead in digs with Riey Coleman. Both had six.

“The girls worked hard,” Bigfork coach Melody Strauss said.

“The came out ready to play ... rose to the occassion.”

Bigfork, the fourth seed from District 7B, really pushed the 6B champs — Florence — in the second and third sets.

Bigfork is back in action in a loser-out contest today at 10 a.m. versus St. Ignatius. Bigfork beat St. Ignatius twice during the regular season.
