Officers with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks and the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation are asking for help in finding people responsible for $6,000 in damage to state property on the Swan State Forest.

On Sept. 13 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., two, 4-foot-square aluminum signs depicting the photos and differences in grizzly and black bears were unbolted and removed.

The same individuals are believed to have damaged three gates by attempting to pull them out with a vehicle. All of this took place in broad daylight and in public view.

This theft and vandalism occurred on the loop road starting on Goat Creek across from the DNRC headquarters on Montana 83 and along forest roads to Napa Lookout and the Cilly Creek Road.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call 1-800-TIP-MONT (800-847-6668). Callers can remain anonymous and a reward may be available.
