Soccer roundup: Bigfork boys top Libby

BIGFORK — Kyle Thomson scored three minutes after halftime to boost Bigfork to a 1-0 win over Libby in a Northern A conference soccer game on Tuesday.

After a scoreless first half, Thomson fed a give-and-go with teammate Tyler Zavala to break behind the Loggers back line for a one-on-one opportunity with Libby goalkeeper Alexander Peterson. It was Thomson’s sixth goal of the season and all the scoring the Vikings needed to earn the shut out win.

POLSON — Corvallis scored five goals in the first half and eight in the game to run away with its contest against Polson.

DJ Pekoc scored two goals and assisted two more to lead the Blue Devils. Cayden Ayers had a pair of goals and an assist and Alejandro Ortiz had two goals.

Russ Smith and Trevor Basler combined for seven saves at keeper for the Pirates, who were out shot in the contest 19-8.

BIGFORK — Bigfork’s Alauna Weilacher scored late in the second half to give her team a lead but an equalizer from Libby’s Callan Peel just minutes later preserved a draw for the Loggers.

Weilacher scored for the Valkyries with 10 minutes to play, giving Bigfork a 1-0 lead after 70 minutes of scoreless play and countless chances from the Vals.

Peel scored on an assist from Anna Carlson to even the match for Libby with three minutes to play, drawing a contest that saw Libby keeper Shannon Reny make 20 saves.

POLSON — Tiara Duford scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner, to lead the Pirates over Corvallis.

Sarah Howell scored in the 14th minute to put Polson on the board but it was Duford’s goal just before halftime that proved to be the difference in the match.

Corvallis’ Katelyn Frost scored four minutes after halftime to half the deficit, but Duford scored once again two minutes later to send Polson away with the win.

Linnea Madsen and Marina Mayorga had assists for the Pirates and Jenna Evertz made seven saves in goal. Polson outshot Corvallis 25-7.

Stillwater evened its match against Priest River, Idaho, early in the second, but couldn’t hold off the barrage of shots late, falling at home in a non-conference game.

Kate Martin scored in the 41st minute, sending in a rebound off the goalie on a breakaway to even the match at 1-1.

It wasn’t enough as Priest River scored later in the half on a cross from Hannah Brengle to Angie Taylor, who found the right side of the net for the game-winner. Priest River outshot the Cougars 23-9 and forced senior keeper Janelle Falk to make 18 saves.
