The Swan Lake Ranger District, Flathead National Forest, will a public meeting Oct. 14 to discuss the Beaver Creek Landscape Restoration Project.
The meeting will be from noon to 4 p.m. at the Swan Lake Ranger District Office, 200 Ranger Station Road, Bigfork.
The purpose of the Beaver Creek project is to reduce the risk of uncharacteristic wildfire and promote ecological restoration by reducing hazardous fuel conditions; improve habitat conditions for threatened, endangered or sensitive species; improve forest health; improve watershed conditions; remediate or controlling invasions of exotic species; and contribute to the local economy by providing commercial and personal-use wood products.
The project area is in the southern-most portion of the Swan Lake Ranger District, bordered by Lindbergh Lake and the Mission Mountains to the west, the Swan River to the north, Montana 83 to the east and the Lolo National Forest to the south.
In addition, this area is within the boundaries of the Southwest Crown of the Continent Collaborative Forest Landscape Restoration Program, which aims to provide funding for the implementation of collaborative science-based ecosystem restoration activities in forested landscapes.
