HELENA — Glacier freshman Annie Hill once again topped All-American Bigfork senior Makena Morley, this time by 22 seconds at the Capital City 7-on-7 Invitational cross country meet on Thursday at Bill Roberts Golf Course.

Hill, who also beat Morley at the Mountain West Classic, finished the three-mile race in 16:57.92 to win the No. 1 heat at the event, which is split into seven races pairing one runner from each school per heat. Morley came in second in 17:20.22, ahead of Billings Skyview’s Amanda Nelson.

Bigfork freshman Bryn Morley, who typically would run with the top two runners in a normal format, finished in 17:17.43 to win the second heat more than a minute ahead of the field, topping Missoula Hellgate’s Miranda Foster, who finished in 18:30.17. Glacier’s Bailey Smith was third in 18:33.78.

Glacier and Flathead saw girls finish in the top seven of every heat, which led the two schools to each compile 29 points. Flathead, which finished second in the final heat, won the tiebreaker for second place as a team, leaving Glacier third. Bozeman, seven-time defending state champions, won the final five heats to take top team honors at the meet.

“We’re super excited that every girl got a medal, every girl placed and we’re coming home with a trophy,” Flathead girls coach Jesse Rumsey said.

Polson finished 11th as a team, Bigfork 18th and Eureka 27th.

The Glacier boys were edged by two points for the top team total, finishing second behind Bozeman with 17 points. Flathead placed fifth.

The Wolfpack was led by senior Kade McCutcheon, who finished third in the first heat in 15:39.37. Helena’s Aidan Reed won it in 14:58.56.

Bigfork junior Logan Morley finished eighth in 16:05.33 and Flathead’s Jake Perrin was 13th in 16:28.09.

Glacier’s Brock Sandry won the second heat by nearly nine seconds to help the Wolfpack’s effort, which also saw three second-place finishes in the final four heats. Bozeman won three of the final four races to make its separation in the team points.

Flathead finished fifth as a team, Polson 28th, Eureka 29th and Bigfork 30th.
