C-Falls' Mundel; Whitefish girls cross country winners

WHITEFISH — Columbia Falls’ Samantha Mundel outpaced the field by 17 seconds to run away with the Whitefish cross country invitational on Saturday.

Mundel finished the race in 18 minutes, 34 seconds ahead of Whitefish’s Sarah Latcham (18:51) and Eureka’s Alexandra Bartmess (19:28).

The Whitefish girls placed all five scoring runners in the top eight to easily win the team title. In addition to Latcham, Barrett Gray finished fourth, Peyton Twete sixth, Annika Gordon seventh and Sara Perez eighth.

Katie Smith finshed 10th for the Bulldogs.

Plains’ Russell Kujala topped the boys field in 16:18. Tanner Laws of Thompson Falls finished second in 16:32 and Whitefish’s Keaton Grove was third in 16:37.

The Frenchtown boys won the team title with Whitefish second.
