A fire broke out in a detached garage behind a house on the corner of Sixth Street West and Second Avenue West in Kalispell around 2:45 p.m. on Monday. Several separate witnesses say they saw a group of what appeared to be high school-aged boys running away from the scene right before the fire broke out.

Evergreen and Kalispell fire departments responded to the call of a fully engulfed structure. Upon their arrival, the departments were able to contain the blaze to the garage.

“It appears to be a human-started fire,” Kalispell Police Chief Roger Nasset said. “We’re interviewing suspects.”

No one was in the garage at the time of the fire, and there were no reported injuries.
