Have you been to Glacier lately?
It has been a banner year in Glacier National Park, reflected by record visitation well before the year is over.
Through September, Glacier had logged 2,238,761 visitors, topping the number for the busiest year in the park’s 104-year-old history.
Given that October has been a gorgeous month for weather, there’s no doubt that the visitor record will go much higher before 2014 ends.
The record year for Glacier was built on August and July, when nearly 1.4 million people visited the park and set monthly records.
Those of us who live in and near the park have always known what a special, spectacular place it is. Now plenty of other people know that, too.
Learn about the Old West
If you are interested in Glacier National Park, you may have attended the inaugural meeting of the Northwest Montana Posse of Westerners on Monday.
In a creative twist, the group chose to start talking about the history of the West by looking at how the West was shaped — literally. Guest speakers talked about ancient glaciers and floods that carved the Western landscape.
Future presentations will focus on the culture and lore of the “more recent” Old West, including next month’s presentation on “Charlie Russell’s Pranks and Stunts” on Nov. 17.
