Deer were being hazed, not poached

A man was spotted chasing deer in his pickup truck near Dilllon Road in Whitefish on Thursday evening. The caller who reported him to the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office was concerned the driver might be poaching the deer, but it turned out that the property owner  was sick of all of the deer in his field and garden so he was chasing them off his land.

A Lakeside caller reported a generator and a set of four studded snow tires stolen from his storage facility.

The Columbia Falls Police Department received a report of “expensive” pottery stolen from a Second Avenue West yard Thursday morning.

A man said he received a call from the state Department of Labor telling him that someone had filed an unemployment claim using his Social Security number.

A woman reported strange goings-on at her Second Avenue West apartment Thursday evening. She said she’s missing her spare key that was outside under a rock, and that when she arrived home the day before, the apartment was open even though she locked it before she left. She also reported a jar of change stolen Wednesday and on Thursday she found a bottle of lotion in her bed that she usually keeps in her travel bag.

Whitefish Police were called when cleaning staff at a U.S. 93 South hotel found a large amount of paintball artillery, including guns and ammunition, and then what they believed to be real ammunition and guns. Police determined it was all paintball-related.

A hit-and-run was reported on Baker Avenue on Thursday afternoon. Police caught up with the man who ran and he received a ticket.

A man called Kalispell Police on Thursday after another man walked up to him on East Idaho Street and asked him if he knew where he could buy some meth.

A pickup was seen driving on Somers Stage and Lower Valley Road on Thursday evening with a possibly intoxicated driver. According to the caller, who was driving behind the man, the pickup went off the road and was hitting mailboxes in the ditch.

A man was spotted trying to enter a back yard on South Meadows Drive on Thursday evening. The caller said the man was leaning up against her fence and when she let her dogs out, the man put his hands up in the air, backed away and acted like he was looking at the house next door.

A white station wagon with a bad muffler was seen spinning circles in the Hutton Ranch Road area of U.S. 93 North around 4 a.m. Friday.

A dead kitten was found in the roadway on U.S. 93 North.  

A “highly intoxicated” woman was seen in a Hutton Ranch Road parking lot Friday morning. Officers let her know about a warrant she has out for her, made her pour out her open container and sent her on her way.

A young girl received inappropriate text messages from an unknown person Friday, according to her mother.
