Dist. 7B volleyball: Eureka hands T-Falls 1st loss

EUREKA — The Thompson Falls Bluehawks entered Saturday’s District 7B volleyball matchup with the Eureka Lions undefeated in conference play, but left Lincoln County with the first blemish on their record as the Lions defeated the Bluehawks in an intense five-set home victory.

The scores: 25-15 14-25 25-22 9-25 16-14.

The teams traded set victories and Thompson Falls crushed Eureka in the fourth 25-9 to capture plenty of momentum heading into the tie-breaker, but it was all for naught as Eureka outlasted the Bluehawks 16-14 for the win.

Eureka (8-8 overall, 5-3 conference) was led by Amanda and Elliott Peterson’s combined 23 kills.

Amanda Peterson had 13 while Elliot Peterson added 10.

Defensively, Eureka ferociously stifled the Bluehawks’ attack, racking up 110 digs in the process. Evynn Anderson had 26 while Amanda Peterson tallied 23.

Thompson Falls had 10-kill efforts from both Madison Fitchett and Shey Hannum while Logan Beckman and Siera Sorlie each earned 19 digs.

Next up is the 7B tournament at Troy on Saturday. Plains will play Troy at 10 a.m. followed by Eureka versus Bigfork at noon. Thompson Falls will play the winner of the Plains-Troy matchup at 2 p.m.

The top four teams advance to the Western B divisional at Ronan the following week.

Bigfork 3, Troy 0

TROY — Bigfork beat Troy for the second time this season, downing the Trojans 25-11, 25-14, 25-18.

Kayla Casalegno had five of Bigfork’s 24 kills. Teammate Miranda Campbell had two blocks.

Kalia Wicklund had 15 of Bigfork’s 19 assists.

Allie Brown, Sami Rohrich and Ashley Gromley had two kills each for Troy.
