Class AA soccer: Glacier boys fall in state semis, 1-0
GREAT FALLS — Missoula Hellgate managed to pull out another tight victory over Glacier on Friday, beating the Wolfpack 1-0 in semifinal play at the Class AA state boys soccer tournament at Siebel Fields.
Andrew Moisey came through with the game-winner, scoring in the 13th minute.
“They are just a clinical team,” Glacier coach Ryan Billiet said of Hellgate.
“We matched their intensity, we feel we had the run of play for much of the first half.”
He said Glacier had some scoring opportunities, “but nothing dangerous.
“They had one clear opportunity and they capitalized.”
Hellgate won both regular-season meeting between the two schools by scores of 1-0 and 2-0.
“It took a lot out of us,” Billiet said of the loss.
“It’s disheartening to come this far and not get to overtime or a shootout. It was their day. We were a couple moments away from playing in the state final tomorrow.”
Glacier (9-5-3) will face Missoula Sentinel today in the third place match. Sentinel beat Glacier early in the season 3-2, but the two teams battled to a 3-3 tie on Sept. 25 at Glacier.
“They have the most dangerous player in the state — Adam Nicholson,” Billiet said.
“This is our opportunity to find whatever it takes to get a win and bring back the first ever hardware (trophy) for boys soccer. We’ve come this far so we’ll give it everything we have.”
