Visit with raptors Saturday at Lone Pine

| September 3, 2014 9:00 PM

Raptor Day is planned Saturday, Sept. 6, at Lone Pine State Park near Kalispell.

From 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., people are invited to explore the world of raptors and see live birds of prey up close at this family friendly event.

A community bird walk will kick off the event at 9:30 a.m.

At 11 a.m., after a short address from Flathead Audubon and the family of Rod Ash, Doug McCarter and colleagues from Montana Wild Wings Recovery Center will give a dynamic presentation with live birds.

Bring a sack lunch or buy lunch from Bennie’s Dog House, then stay to hear researchers from Denver Holt’s Owl Institute of Montana talk about their current research on Montana’s owls at 1:30 p.m.

Lone Pine will provide activities for children during breaks and as an alternative during the presentations.

There will also be many fun and interactive booths from local conservation agencies and organizations.

Raptor Day is sponsored by Montana State Parks and Flathead Audubon.
