Irma C. Ruppel passed peacefully in her sleep at home on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014.

Born in Toledo Ohio, on Jan. 3, 1911, Irma was cherished by everyone who knew her.

Irma married Alvin Ruppel on June 15, 1931. Known as the Candy Lady for many generations of kids in Toledo, she had a way of touching everyone’s lives with her gentle soul. Irma loved gardening, flowers and musical events. Learning to drive in her 60s, she also traveled in Mystery Tours during her last years in Ohio.

After 70 years in her home, Irma moved to the Flathead Valley to be with her daughter and family.

Irma was preceded in death by her loving husband, G. Alvin Ruppel; son-in-law, Paul C. Shelt; her brothers, Arthur, George and Frank Gable; and her sisters, Loretta Carr and Mildred Craig.

She is survived by her daughter, Ann C. Shelt; two grandsons, Nick Shelt and wife Brenda Lee of Kalispell, and Bruce Shelt and wife Lena of Anchorage, Alaska; two beautiful great-granddaughters, Stacie Erickson and husband Rocky of Columbia Falls, and Trina Shelt of St. Albans, Vt.; and two wonderful great-great-granddaughters, Bailey and Oakley Erickson.

Irma leaves many friends and family in Toledo as well. Having touched so many lives, she will be missed and our memories of her cherished.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home, with services to follow at 11 a.m.

Her family requested in lieu of flowers and cards that donations be made to hospice in her memory.
