Glenadele 'Glennie' Nelson Máté, 76
Glenadele “Glennie” Nelson Máté, died Aug. 29, 2014, in her Montana home, after a short, but brave battle with lung and brain cancer.
She is absent from the body, but present with the Lord. — II Corinthians 5:8.
Glennie was born Aug. 15, 1938, in Price, Utah, to Glen LeRoy and Amy Crawford Nelson. Her father died three months prior to her birth. She and her sister, Jessie Lee Etzel (now deceased), were raised by their wonderful mother, Amy, and her grandmother, Jessie Crawford. She graduated from Carbon High School Class of ‘56, and St. Mark’s School of Nursing class of ’59 at West Minister College. She was a member of PEO Sisterhood, Chapter Q.
She worked as a nurse at St. Mark’s Hospital, Granger Medical Clinic, Holy Cross Hospital and Blue Cross Blue Shield, all in the state of Utah.
Glennie married Louis A. Máté in Salt Lake City July 1, 1961, and had two precious, beautiful and loving daughters. She and Loui enjoyed raising their girls, and took them everywhere. Whether it was sailing on Bear Lake, or the Great Salt Lake, or skiing at their many favorite ski resorts in Salt Lake City, the girls were always in tow.
In September 1973, she accepted Jesus into her heart to be her Savior and the Lord of her life. She lived her life to glorify God and took every opportunity to teach her children and those she met about Jesus. She never considered herself religious, just in love with Jesus. Even in her last days, she counted it a privilege to pray for others.
Glennie loved to spend time with her family and friends. She adored her grandchildren and enjoyed many fun times sailing, skiing and playing games with them. She loved to laugh and hear them laugh. She attended many Bible studies and Women’s Aglow, where she loved learning about the Lord and connecting with people.
She was full of life and joy and took every opportunity to laugh, dance and sing. Her smile was “gold” and her laugh infectious. She had a way of making you feel special, included and loved. She and Loui would often clear the dance floor with their stunning and elegant moves. Their favorite dance for their kids’ entertainment, was dancing in the living room to “Tuxedo Junction.” She would often grab one of her daughters or grandchildren and start dancing the Jitterbug with them. She always had a jingle or song to brighten up a moment and make the “mood” more fun! She was also an excellent pianist and wowed you with her playing.
She is survived by her husband, Loui, whom she loved very dearly; her daughter, Cindy, and husband, Scott Catlett; and daughter, Linda, and husband, Troy Larsen; her precious grandchildren, Marcus, Brooke, Julia and Curtis; nieces, Alene Bentley and Amy Kohlmeier, nephews, Glenn Etzel, M.D., Laszlo and Miklos Preysz; and many precious grand- and great-nieces and -nephews.
Her celebration of life is at 11 a.m. on Saturday, the 13th of September, at the Lakeside Baptist Church in Lakeside.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Lakeside Baptist Church or YWAM (Youth With A Mission) of Lakeside.
