Middle East battles won't be resolved without big changes

To those of you who remember the movie “Lawrence of Arabia,” you may recall when Lawrence was asked, “What are you fighting for?” and he replied, “For the Arabs.” But history has shown that fighting for the Arabs was an effort in futility, for the Arabs at that time and present time cannot be united. For centuries, the Middle East has been a collection of one tribe after another fighting among themselves, for their own particular interest and all in the name of “Allah.”

The Western world and the Europeans have made alliances over the years with our so-called allies, and yet these very same people have supported radical groups since the Europeans first arrived in their lands. Seventeen of the 19 individuals involved with the 9/11 attacks in our country were from Saudi Arabia, the attack on the USS Cole in Yemen, which killed a number of Navy personnel, is another example of our allies supporting radical groups within their boundaries to harm U.S. interest.

What is taking place today with ISIS is just another example of one radical tribe killing and conquering in the name of “Allah” other tribes within the area and proclaiming in the name of “Allah” that their conquest is justifiable and it is their duty to promote their doctrine in the name of “Allah” to the entire world.

History has shown that more people have been killed in the name of religion, than most of the wars that have happened upon this planet and all in the name of “God” or “Allah or some other Deity.”

We have leaders of the Muslim faith claiming that Islam is a peaceful religion and yet women are sexually mutilated and reduced to slaves within this male dominated so-called religion. When a woman can be beaten for driving a car or leaving her home without permission from the dominant male, and all in the name of the “Prophet Muhammad” and in the name of “Allah,” something is wrong with this picture.

For it is the inherent right of all individuals to be “free” and not placed under the thumb of any form of dictatorship, be it in government or religion. The solution in the Middle East is quite simple, but quite brutal in it’s implementation. The free democratic world must implement the same kind of plan we had for Nazi Germany after the Second World War and the same type of plan MacArthur had for Japan after they were defeated. The total destruction of the social and religious system that was in place prior to their defeat and the realization to all the peoples, that regardless of their status or sex, they are equal. —Jim Garvey, Kalispell
