Seminar will talk about threats to citizens' rights
The seminar at Hilton Garden Inn this Saturday (Sept. 13) looks at the “big picture” of pending legislation concerning water and Kerr Dam.
It is being held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and will address how the heavily debated water compact and Kerr Dam acquisition will impact private property rights and values, the economy and way of life here in Western Montana. We are likely tired of hearing ongoing controversial details of these negotiations without realizing how permanently (forever) the decisions might impact our lives and our children’s lives.
Keynote speaker Elaine Willman states that passage of the proposed compact could result in the removal of constitutional state protection of citizens and their property in 11 Montana counties. Her first-hand knowledge comes from visiting 17 reservations and years of researching Indian policies, history and law.
She has seen how their policies can impact entire communities throughout the country. Repercussions are being reported of federal over-reach through tribal governments in Klamath Falls, California, Wyoming and elsewhere. Restrictions on water use reduce property value, limit sales potential, and ultimately lead to federal control and ownership.
At this Saturday seminar, “Waters and Lands of Montana,” we will hear from our elected officials and business people revealing how changes are already being accomplished. Intermeshing of federal, state and local governments serves to achieve ultimate control of essential water. Economic impacts will be felt throughout the state.
Please attend this Saturday conference to hear about proposed water policies which could jeopardize entire communities and what we as citizens need to do. This informative meeting is being sponsored by non-profit Freedom Action Rally, asking but not requiring a $20 donation to finance lunch and other costs. —Clarice Ryan, Bigfork
