Glacier High School has secured its fourth NorthWestern Energy Academic Excellence award for Class AA schools.

One academic award was given in each of the four state classifications — AA, A, B and C.

Whitefish High School was a runner-up for Class A.

Winners were determined by averaging grades earned by students who participated in athletic, music or speech/drama programs during the 2013-14 school year.

Grades were considered for sports varsity letter winners, music students who received superior ratings at district festivals, speech/drama students who participated in a state tournament and all varsity cheerleaders.

With 334 participants, Glacier students averaged a 3.4 grade-point average.

Whitefish High School had 208 participants whose grades averaged 3.5 — behind Butte Central’s 107 participants and 3.5 grade-point average.
