Airshow parking not adequate for elderly and infirm
After reading a couple articles about the resounding success of the recent air show, I offer the following observation:
I’m 89 and in fair health and had plans to take my grandson and great-grandson to see the Thunderbirds. I had a ticket for the VIP lot, which turned out to be farther than the handicapped lot, which was no charge.
There were no shuttle buses!
The plus or minus half-mile trek to the airport viewing area was very trying for the young, old and infirm. I noted strollers, buggies, wheelchairs, canes and one elderly pushing a wheeled walker, all in loose dirt and rough ground.
The trip forced me to leave early. With the help of my grandson, a golf cart and a trolley bus, we got back to our car and left before the Thunderbirds performed.
I realize the enormity of the logistics involved in controlling traffic of this volume. The National Guard personnel were very cordial and helpful. However, a couple of nonmilitary staff were disappointing. One was very rude and the other tried to scam us out of $5 for parking. —Howard Stockwell, Kalispell
