Give credit to Byrds

I was disappointed in your article “Out of Eden” on Sept. 8 about the Garden of Eden thrift store. I understand the Christophersons’ frustration and I admire their dedication to our community. However, they are not being displaced by a liquor store; they are being displaced by a long-standing local business whose owners are also dedicated to improving our community and are willing to take a risk in purchasing the space.

Melanie and O’Brien Byrd have also contributed time and resources to members of our community, including students, and I felt it was incredibly unfair to fail to recognize the great things they have done.

While I wish the Christophersons the best and hope they find another location, I am also very excited about the possibilities for Columbia Falls with community-minded individuals like the Byrds investing in our town. —Carla Fisher, Columbia Falls
