Soccer roundup: Hellgate nips Glacier 1-0, twice

MISSOULA — Missoula Hellgate used late goals by Kenzie Wingard and Dylan Rossbach to beat the Glacier girls and boys in Western AA soccer play Thursday at Rattlesnake Fields by 1-0 scores.

Wingard’s goal was at 76 minutes.

Rossbach’s came at 77 minutes.

“First half, we showed a great possession game,” Glacier coach Brenden Byrd said.

“Second half, we came out flat and Hellgate came out extremely strong. They put everything on the line until they put the ball in the back of the net.”

Hellgate had 10 shots on goal to eight for Glacier.

Amy Braig had eight keeper saves for the Wolfpack.

Glacier slips to 3-2-2 overall, 1-2-2 in league.

Rossback scored on a header off a deflection in front of the Glacier net. That was set up by a Hellgate free kick that was blocked by Ryker McIntyre, Glacier’s keeper.

“A heartbreaker for sure,” Glacier boys coach Ryan Billiet said.

“We missed a couple opportunites early on.”

Glacier was missing two starting defenders due to injuries.

Glacier falls to 5-1-1, 3-1-1.

The Glacier boys and girls play their second home match of the season on Saturday hosting Missoula Big Sky. The girls start at 11 a.m. followed by the boys at 1 p.m.

Columbia Falls splits with Libby

COLUMBIA FALLS — Sydney Grilley, Lottie Ellis and Maddy Snyder scored goals to push Columbia Falls to a 4-0 Northern A girls victory over Libby.

The Wildkats’ (2-1-2 and 1-0) final score was an own goal.

“I thought we played a pretty good game,” Columbia Falls girls coach Greg Trenerry said.

“We got all 22 players in. As a team, they played together.”

Sage Friss, Cody Wood and Walter Briones scored goals for Libby in a 3-1 victory for the boys over the Wildcats.

Columbia Falls scored on an own goal.

“I have to give credit to our keeper once again,” Columbia Falls coach Peter Browne said of Brandon Karberg. “He had a great game. He didn’t have much (help) in front of him.”

Karberg had 10 saves.

Libby outshot Columbia Falls (1-4 and 0-1) on goal 13-1.

Columbia Falls plays a league match Saturday at Bigfork. Boys start it off at noon with girls on the field at 2 p.m.

Libby entertains Whitefish on Saturday in Northern A play. Girls play at noon with boys in action at 2 p.m.

POLSON  — Katie Thomas scored on a penalty kick in the 77th minute to give Bigfork the Northern A victory.

Halie Norrage put Bigfork in front 1-0 with her goal at 48 minutes.

Polson’s Sarah Howell tied the match with a goal at 56 minutes.

Kyle Thomson accounted for all the scoring as the Bigfork boys posted a 2-0 victory. He scored at 23 and 51 minutes.

Ben Russell had nine keeper saves for Bigfork.

Bigfork hosts Columbia Falls on Saturday for league play. Boys play at noon with girls on the pitch at 2 p.m.

    Polson’s next outing is Sept. 25 at Columbia Falls, boys at 4 p.m. followed by girls at 6.
