June Daley, 89

| September 22, 2014 7:36 PM

Sometimes great things come in small packages and June Daley at a petite 4’11” was a great lady, with the emphasis on lady.

June passed away on Sept. 17, 2014,  in Phoenix.

June was born Sept. 3, 1925, in New South Wales, Australia. Her mother, Doris West, raised June and her sister, Mavis, on her own. They lived in Melbourne, New South Wales, in the early years. When Mavis got married and moved to Sydney so did June and her mother. Upon graduating from high school June went straight to work in retail sales.

World War II’s impact changed the course of many lives, including June’s. She met a soldier from Montana, Garland Daley, who was stationed in Australia. They fell in love and after Garland was discharged in October 1945 he returned to Australia where they were married June 8, 1946. They returned to the Flathead Valley and made their home in Kalispell.

June made her family her life work. Her family was her passion and the most important thing in the world to her. She did everything for them and their well-being was the focus of her life. Her family knew they were loved.

Besides being a housewife, she supported Garland’s business in the timber industry and all of her family’s interests. Unfortunately for June, her family was primarily interested in a rural lifestyle that included horses, cows and sheep. This was a severe lifestyle change for a city girl from Australia who had never owned a dog. June loved the ranch in the Foys Lake area and adapted to driving kids to 4-H meetings, horse shows, O-Mok-Sees and rodeos, with football and basketball games sandwiched in between. When left with an empty nest, she became Garland’s “Gal Friday,” helping grease trucks, dragging Christmas trees, branding and doctoring cattle and watching the gate. She did this while being a lady.

June is survived by her two daughters, Carol Lake and her husband Bill, and Carron Myres and her husband Dale; brothers-in-law, James A. Daley of Somers, and Carl A. Daley and wife Betty of Kalispell; and sisters-in-law, Betty Lou Neal, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Opal Newell of Billings. June has nieces and nephews in Australia and the United States.

June was preceded in death by her son, Robert N. Daley; and her husband, Garland N. Daley.

Visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, at Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, in the Johnson-Gloschat Chapel. Committal services will follow in the C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery, with a reception to follow.

The family suggests memorial gifts to Flathead Industries, c/o Senior Activity Dept., 66 4th Ave. W.N., Kalispell, MT 59901.
