Road work transitions to 24-hour schedule

| September 27, 2014 8:00 PM

Schellinger Construction, general contractor for the second phase of the U.S. 93 reconstruction project west of Whitefish – Karrow to Mountainside — will transition to working 24 hours a day, seven days a week starting at midnight on Wednesday, Oct. 1. This schedule will continue through approximately Nov. 10.

The new schedule aims to ensure maximum progress is made on the project during months with the lowest traffic and tourism volume. The goal is to minimize overall delays and impact to adjacent businesses and residents.

During November and October, there will be occasional one-lane traffic and delays. Choosing alternate routes, when possible, is suggested. Planning for delays and occasional one-lane traffic is recommended.

“The surrounding businesses and residents, the city of Whitefish and the Montana Department of Transportation have been incredibly supportive of the Karrow to Mountainside project and we are very appreciative. Their partnership exemplifies the essence of true community,” said Marc Blanden, project manager for Schellinger Construction. “We will continue to do our best to serve our friends and neighbors ... throughout this phase of the project.”

Upon completion, the Karrow to Mountainside project will deliver a highway better suited to meet the needs of the Whitefish community, he said. Improvements include a wider highway, new bike paths and sidewalks. Additionally, the project includes a new storm-drain system, water system and sewer system.
