Park officials suggest alternative trails

Glacier National Park officials are asking people to consider visiting a different region of the park other than the Going-to-the-Sun Road to Logan Pass.

Park rangers are stationed along the Sun Highway and are noting two- to three-hour delays to anyone trying to drive to Logan Pass from the west side.

The Reynolds Creek Fire has closed down the east side of the road from the pass for past two weeks and will likely keep the road closed for the foreseeable future — there is still active fire close to the highway. That means there’s no through traffic.

Folks who want to see Logan Pass are encouraged to take the free shuttle or a red bus tour. Good alternatives with great hiking trails include Two Medicine and Many Glacier regions on the east side. One of the least-visited areas of Glacier is Marias Pass, off U.S. 2. The Firebrand Pass Trail offers great scenery and access to the southern backcountry of the Park.
