Fires burning in Lincoln County

West of the Flathead Valley, two wildfires continued to burn Thursday in timberlands in Lincoln County.

The Weigel Fire grew to 120 acres Thursday 24 miles northeast of Libby. A Type II fire management team is scheduled to take over operations on the fire this morning.

It was spotted Tuesday after a lightning storm hit the area.

Smokejumpers and rappellers attempted to stop the fire that day, according to Kootenai National Forest fire dispatch.

The Dunn Fire is burning east of Libby on Plum Creek Timber Co. land near the Fisher River.

It was 50 percent contained by noon on Thursday, with no growth reported after it surged to 80 acres on Wednesday.
