LETTER: God or the IRS?

| August 13, 2015 9:00 PM

Like Granddaddy used to say, it’s time to fish or cut bait. Christians in America will have to choose their master.

God defined marriage, and Christian pastors obeyed for 2,000 years. Last month the federal government redefined marriage to include same-sex couples. Christians must serve only one master. Will you bow to God or Caesar?

Yes, I know that pastors of 501(c)(3) tax-exempt churches surrendered their First Amendment (religious liberty) and Fifth Amendment (protection against self-incrimination) rights when they enlisted with the IRS. But did they tell members that they no longer own any of the assets? Ouch!

And now the really bad news… To dissolve your 501(c)(3) corporation, you must first give all your assets to another 501(c)(3) corporation. If you don’t the State will take your assets and do it for you. Oh, the price of dealing with the Devil! Never underestimate the power of 30 pieces of silver.

Is this complicated? No. Christ made it very simple when He told us, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Matthew 6:21). Sadly I predict most pastors will cling to their full offering plates, deny God and conduct same-sex marriages. Most members will cling to their tax deductions.

But Christians can rejoice! God has a history of working with His “remnants.” I urge Christians to vote with your feet and escape bondage from the Internal Revenue Service. Understandably we take pride in brick and mortar, impeccable lawns, and pot luck dinners, but God does not give a hoot about these earthly distractions.

Focus on the message of the cross, walk away and don’t look back. Find a First Amendment liberty pastor who is taking a public stand for marriage as God defined, and who is unafraid to tell the IRS to butt out. Fear not! —Roger Dwyer, Kila
