A fire at Twin Creek that started Friday has grown to 160 acres, according to the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation.

The fire, located about two miles east of Meadow Peak on the Flathead County line, has accumulated 20 personnel, a helicopter and 10 pieces of heavy equipment.

“The fire had some pretty aggressive behavior during that windy storm; there was a lot of spotting,”  DNRC spokesman Jeremy Pris said. “Sunday will be better with lower temperatures, higher humidity and less wind. We’ll be working aggressively to gain some containment.”

So far the fire is zero percent contained, with no structures in immediate danger from the fire.

The state agency is fighting four other area fires with the help of other agencies.

The Dayton Creek Fire that started on Aug. 11 reached 10 1/2 acres about 4 miles north of Dayton. The fire has been contained and controlled, Pris said.

A blaze dubbed Sullivan Creek Fire southeast of Hubbart Reservoir also reached 10 1/2 acres and has been lined by fire crews. North of the reservoir, the Pine Prairie Fire is at a small acreage and is in patrol status.

The most recent burn, the Dahl West Fire just west of Dahl Lake, has grown to one acre and has been lined by crews.

“It’s obviously still extremely dry, so we’re asking the public to be extra cautious and to help with any man-made fires that can be prevented,” Pris said.
