OPINION: 'Wizard of Oz' remake could be based in D.C.

It has been over 75 years since the movie “The Wizard of Oz” awed viewers with its fictional fantasy. I find it bizarre how today’s political scene in Washington parallels the surreal storyline of this classical masterpiece. Let’s look at the original cast for specific examples.

Dorothy plays the role of “Lady Liberty,” both seeking the safety and security of home; the protagonist wishing to return to her familiar Kansas farmhouse and the latter wanting to return to the America that once had sovereign borders and traditional freedoms.

The never-never land of the Emerald City represents, of course, the bizarre world of Washington, D.C.

“The Great and Powerful Wizard of Oz” is none other than President Obama. When the curtains are pulled back it reveals a perfect embodiment of “The Peter Principle” randomly yanking on levers (his army of liberal advisers and political hacks) and microphones (his toady national news media) to create a false image of this hapless man’s inflated ego and destructive behavior.

“The Wicked Witch of the West” represents the perpetually lying Hillary Clinton who seems obsessed with defending or scapegoating her irresponsible and illegal actions, the result being she has nothing positive career-wise worth mentioning.

Then there are the winged monkeys sent to attack “Lady Liberty.” The IRS certainly proved their worth in this endeavor with their selective attacks on conservative political organizations. Honorable mention goes to Eric Holder and his Chicago-style Department of Justice.

There is certainly no shortage of politicians in Washington suited to fill the role of the Scarecrow; that delusional mouthpiece that needs a brain. Either John Kerry or Joe Biden would easily fill the role.

My vote for “the Cowardly Lion who seeks courage” goes jointly to John Boehner and Mitch McConnell, establishment Republican leaders of Congress who demonstrated countless times their fear of standing up to the unconstitutional and unconscionable actions of President Obama and instead, enabling and even supporting the liberal agenda of economic destruction.

Having a heart or conscience is another rare commodity to be found in the nation’s capital. Finding a politician there with moral integrity is as unlikely as finding a legally owned handgun in an inner city. So who best to fill the role of “the Tin Man,” someone who has no heart, from among the overwhelming number of candidates? To be consistent, Nancy Pelosi can’t fill the male role, so that leaves Harry Reid, a man of extraordinary skill at putting himself and his party before the best interests of America.

These are just my personal bipartisan opinions. I am sure others could easily assemble a different list. Too bad someone can’t tap the ruby slippers three times and get all of us out of this social/economic morass we seem to be perpetually mired in. Hopefully the next election will offer a path to salvation.
