Whitefish set to auction unusual items from City Hall

Are you in the market for a century-old steel jail cell?

How about some vintage street lamp globes? Spoiler alert: they’re not compliant with Whitefish’s “dark sky” ordinance.

Perhaps some government-issued soap dispensers, window blinds or a hunk of bullet-proof glass?

The city of Whitefish has a collection of both unusual and mundane items it intends to auction off on Saturday, Sept. 5, in a pre-demolition liquidation. The city is ready to bulldoze City Hall next month to make way for a new City Hall and parking garage on the same street corner, at Baker Avenue and Second Street.

That means Whitefish is cleaning house, big-time.

Roshon’s Auction Service will conduct the sale at City Hall starting at 9 a.m.

There are a few vehicles for sale, including a 1979 Dodge brush fire utility truck, a 1993 Ford ambulance and a 1977 Ford dump truck.

The vintage items include seven sets of steel jail cells built in 1918, patterned tin siding panels, a roll-top desk and 40 old street lamp globes.

Fixtures run the gamut, from commercial oak doors and halogen light fixtures to an aluminum flag pole, drinking fountains and exit signs.

A hydraulic elevator is on the auction block, along with a roof-top air conditioner, assorted overhead garage doors and two natural gas furnaces.

Buyers will be asked to remove the items they buy, if they’re still attached to City Hall.

Public viewing of items is planned from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, and from 7:30 to 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5. An online list is available at www.bobbyroshon.com.
