LETTER: Hot summer leaves animal project in need

| August 29, 2015 9:00 PM

This has been a very hot summer. The fires are destroying thousands of acres of forests, and all our farmers are facing a crisis in hay and grain. The suppliers of animal feed are down this year by 60 percent. That is a disaster for the farmers and for such needed shelters as “The All Mosta Ranch” in Marion.

As the life sustaining hay and grain burns up, it causes a vicious cycle where both the rancher and consumer lose, but ultimately the animals lose the most.

The ranch needs grain weekly, their supplier is Hedstrom’s (261-7545). The ranch uses four bags each of hog feed, scratch and 3-way. You could call and gift whatever you can to the ranch.

Kathleen needs our help to care for these critters. The ranch is totally dependent on donations. I am asking you all not to let these wonderful animals down. Most of them have come to the ranch in tough shape because their former owners did not have the ability to give them proper care.

Send your support to: The All Mosta Ranch, P.O. Box 937, Marion, Montana 59925. The ranch is a non-profit livestock rescue adoption and education center, and a community service organization. It provides a sustainable quality of life for abused, displaced, neglected, or unwanted farm animals, while enriching the lives of children and adults. You can have a nice afternoon with the kids by taking them to the ranch and meeting these animals who know how to raise your level of love. You are welcome and encouraged to visit at 630 Lower Lost Prairie Rd, Marion, Montana. Phone 270-7513 if you have any questions.

The first day of this very hot summer, June 21, I had my 79th birthday and as I reflect back over the years, every pet who ever owned me added so much love, laughter, and just sheer joy. I can’t imagine how empty it would have been without them in this world with me.

With so much selfishness all around us everyday, we need to reach out and support these lovely animals — animals that love us unconditionally even when we can’t love ourselves.

Please help Kathleen to continue doing this service for our community for the animals that are one of the best reasons for living.

Any amount — $10, $15, $25, whatever you can afford — but please help. In so doing you will sleep better and feel better, I promise. It happens to me each month when I give to these lovely creatures. —Irene E. Johnson, Bigfork
