Local schools gearing up for start of new year

Stillwater Christian

• The first day of school is Sept. 10 and an estimated 340 students will attend Stillwater this year.

• Daily class times for elementary students attend school from 8:10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Middle and high school students attend from 8:05 a.m. to 3 p.m.

• Lunch service begins on the first day of school. Costs are: $2, preschool; $3, kindergarten through fifth or $3.50 for sixth through high school.

• An exciting change to the facilities is a new 10,800-square-foot-addition that houses six new high school classrooms — including a science laboratory, presentation room and Harkness room and a lobby, commons area and conference room.

An additional music room has been created in addition to an art room expansion. The gym had some upgrades including a new concessions area, sound system and bleachers. The gym floor has also been refinished and improvements have been made to lighting and ventilation.

The preschool program has been relocated from a Quonset hut to the elementary building. The Quonset hut has been redesigned for creative and multimedia uses.

The parking lot also has been enlarged.

• In academics, a drama club is being offered to middle and high school students. A newspaper and journalism program will be offered to high school students. The high school also will add an Advanced Placement government class in addition to current offerings in Advanced Placement calculus, literature, human biology, physics and chemistry.

An after-school child care program is available to Stillwater Christian School families.

• Stillwater welcomes teachers Michelle Fetveit, high school English; Kallie Ohs, kindergarten; Dan Stoll, high school science and math; Summer Van Oort, middle and high school language arts, Bible and journalism; and Sierra Zemke, first grade. Other new staff members are: Brittany Deglow, preschool aide; Tracie Lindborg, elementary principal; Jonathan May, drama club coach and Andrea Shawback, new development assistant.

• New families are invited to attend a luncheon at noon Sept. 8. An open house will follow at 1 p.m. for students to bring school supplies and meet teachers.

West Glacier

• School starts Sept. 8 for approximately 66 students attending West Glacier this year.

• Class times are from 7:40 a.m. to 4:10 p.m.

• School projects include expanding the parking area.

• Kati Knutson joins West Glacier to teach music and provide support in other teaching areas.

St. Matthew’s

• School is back in session Sept. 8. Enrollment is projected at 155 students.

• Meals will be served the first day of school. Lunch costs $2.75.

• St. Matthew’s welcomes new teachers Lauren Jones, kindergarten; Kyle Tannehill, music; Kimberly Weaver, sixth- through eighth-grade math and fifth- through eighth-grade computers; and long-term substitute Raven Dryden.

Trinity Lutheran

• School begins Sept. 9 for an estimated 190 to 200 students.

• Daily class times have changed this year. School will start at 8:20 a.m. and end at 3:25 p.m.

• The third-grade classroom has been remodeled.

• Trinity Lutheran welcomes new Principal Bill Stark and teachers Paul Henry, fourth grade; and Alyssa Renken, first grade.

• An open house is planned from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 8. Students can bring their supplies and visit their classrooms.
